Origin of Mifuneyama Rakuen(Paradise)
In 1845, Shigeyoshi Nabeshima who was the 28th Takeo regional lord, felt the necessity to bring scientific technology and academic knowledge into Japan which still had been closed to foreign countries at that time, and worked hard to spread Western studies in Takeo. In addition to his energy and far-sightedness, Shigeyoshi also had an artistic sense, and made “Mifuneyama Rakuen” (Kyu Hagino-en). He created a 495,000m2 Kaiyu-shiki Tei-en (a stroll style garden) on the Mifuneyama Mountain whichis at an altitudeofs 210m, made a relaxation place in Takeo. He was only twenty three years old at that time, and was appointed as a Hitto Karo(Head of top-ranking samurai officials). |

미후네야마 낙원 (御船山楽園)의 유래
1845년 타케오 제 28대 영주인 나베시마 시게요시(鍋島茂義) 공은, 여전히 제 외국에 대해 문을 굳게 걸어 잠그고 있었던 일본에 과학기술과 학문의 도입이 필요하다는 사실을 통감하고, 타케오에 난학(蘭學)을 보급하기 위해 힘을 썼던 명사입니다. 유례 드문 실행력과 선견지명적인 지혜와 더불어 예술적인 면에서도 풍부한 감성을 지녔던 시게요시 공이 창설한 것이 바로 『미후네야마 낙원(御船山楽園)』（구 하기노오 원(萩野尾苑）)입니다. 불과 23세의 젊은 나이에 가신의 우두머리로 발탁되었던 시게요시 공은, 표고 210미터의 장대한 미후네야마 산기슭에 약 15만 평의 광대한 회유식 정원을 창설, 타케오 지방에 치유의 공간을 하사했던 것입니다. |
